March 2, 2010, marks the 13th anniversary of the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day. In preparation for the celebration, the NEA is taking a poll to determine the favorite kids’ book series. The poll includes Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling; Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan; The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis; Twilight by Stephanie Meyer; Ramona by Beverly Clearly; and any other of your choice (Other). Results are tabulated and can be viewed as they are submitted.Read Across America Day began in May 1997 when a reading task force at the NEA decided to set aside a day each year to celebrate reading and encourage children to become life-long readers. The group chose Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2, for the annual reading celebration, and the first Read Across America Day was held in 1998.
The NEA provides a multitude of ideas for preparing for and celebrating Read Across America Day. It is their goal that on March 2 every child will spend time reading in the company of a caring adult.

I voted for Harry Potter.
I had to go with my childhood hero, Nancy Drew. Driving about in her roadster, solving crimes with her friends, and enjoying time with her beau, the long-suffering Ned Nickerson.
My first books were the Ramona series by Beverly Clearly. Had to vote for her.
